Event: Doujima 2018

Doujima (a.k.a. Doujin Market) was held on 5 and 6 May 2018, Sat and Sun, at the Suntec City Convention Centre. Unlike last year, this year’s event was held in a convention hall itself, so the space and crowd control was better. There were definitely a lot of people as always, but it was much less suffocating.

I am ashamed to admit I had totally forgotten to take photos of the event venue so I don’t have a general event image to post here /o\ Ahh, I’m so sorry, I’ll do better next time OTL The cursory video I took of the hall can’t be posted here so it’s on my Facebook page, but here’s a screenshot of one of the event’s official photos instead.

Organised by The Neo Tokyo Project, Doujima is Singapore’s largest arts & illustration fair, predominantly catered towards the Manga, Anime, Comic, Gaming and etc. Community. If you’re ever looking to check out the fan merch and illustration community in Singapore, this would be THE event to consider.

#Cosplay2017

So I did a post on this last year and I’d like to do one for this year too.

As mentioned then, I expected the first half of 2017 to be relatively quiet in terms of cosplay. But of course that turned out to be horribly wrong and choke-filled with photoshoot plans instead, ahahaha… OTL

Here’s my #cosplay2017 summary collage:

Event: Doujima 2017 – Day 2

Ahahaha crap, didn’t manage to get this out before leaving on trip, but it’s back to reality and the blog backlog XD

Singapore definitely has no shortage of conventions and events for the otaku and geek community, but a majority of them usually happen in the 2nd half of the year. There were one (or two?) much smaller events that I didn’t go for in the first 4 months of 2017, but it’s been 5 months since a relatively more popular con happened, the last one I went for being EOY 2016. This is just a little of my experience on Doujima, that happened 3 weeks ago.

Doujin Market – Doujima was held on 6 and 7 (Sat and Sun) May at the Suntec City Convention Centre, Level 3, The Concourse. Because I had work on Saturday, I couldn’t make it down on the first day of the event, but there was no way I was gonna miss going down on Sunday!

As can be seen from the words on the setup in the photo above, Doujima is Singapore’s largest annual doujin art fair convention. Unlike other events where there’re stage programs and other stuff going on including official and artist booths, a majority of Doujima is dedicated to artists and creators, with a whopping 170 booths showcased at the venue!

#Cosplay2016

To be honest, the only reason why this has a post of its own is because I couldn’t find a place to slot this into my planned New Year’s post and I really wanted to share it here XD

If I currently had to rank my hobbies, Cosplay would no doubt come out higher than Blogging. There’re on and off seasons for this though so I expect the first half of 2017 will be a relatively quiet time in regards to Cosplay because most events happen at a later part of the year.

I’ve been in this hobby for a long time and it’s shaped a huge part of who I am today. Might have to tone it down now that I’m not as free as before, but I can’t see myself stopping anytime soon.

Here’s my #cosplay2016 summary collage:

Merry Christmas!! \o/\o/

Didn’t get the chance to post this before the end of 25th Dec where I am, but it’s alright, I’ll just rewind a bit, heheh.

Hope everyone had a very Merry Christmas! Whether you celebrated, worked or slacked the day away, I wish you all the happiness and joy! Don’t give up ok? There’s someone always rooting for you.

I had a really good Christmas and I hope you did too ❤

Event: EOY 2016

You’ve probably realised by now, but Singapore’s cosplay and pop-culture event timeline picks up from the middle of the year (July) with Cosfest, then it’s pretty much continuous where there’s an event every few weeks until the end of year.  The last cosplay and pop-culture event in Singapore for 2016 happened last weekend.

My experience there wasn’t that eventful but I had lots of fun anyway 🙂 Events are always fun \o/

EOY Cosplay Festival 2016 was held on 10 and 11 Dec (Saturday and Sunday) at the Marina Barrage. Besides the usual reasons of wanting to see friends, being able to cosplay, getting merch and being able to meet guests, there was also the added motivation of it being a free event with no entrance fee. Unfortunately, unlike a lot of other events, it was held outdoors, so in Sunny Singapore, it’s pretty darn hot and not as favourable for any event-goers in general.

There were still lots of people though.

Event: AFA 2016

Don’t want to put off writing this because I’ve only just remembered I only posted once in November and that is a travesty

Cosplay preparation pretty much took over my November and I really haven’t had time to read much manga or watch anime for the past month. I miss it so much. December’s going to be another busy month, what with the many plans I’ve got going on in terms of cosplay and family stuff, but I’ve just accepted a full-time job starting in Jan 2017 so that’s a total load off my chest. I’ll be getting a steady income to support my hobbies now!

If you can’t be bothered with this (potentially super) long post, you can always check out my condensed posts on the blogging application, Dayre. I’ve actually been (somewhat) regularly updating eheheh ~

Anime Festival Asia Singapore 2016 aka AFA SG 2016 was held at the Suntec City Convention and Exhibition Centre from the 25th-27th of November (Fri-Sun) 2016 last weekend. As most of you probably know already, AFA SG is basically the biggest and most-well-known anime convention held annually in in the country and one I always look forward to. Here’s my post from last year.

img_8548

Always going to repeat this: If there’s one anime convention you should consider making the trip to Singapore for, it’s definitely AFA SG. As usual, my event experience posts probably aren’t interesting to many, but I’d like to share anyway.

Note: Extremely (I DID NOT EXPECT IT TO BE THIS) long, photo-heavy post.

Event: SportsFest 2016

Now that I’ve just finished playing Ace Attorney 6, I guess it’s time for me to catch up with all the Summer 2016 anime episodes I’ve put on hold for the past month and a half. Hopefully I’ll be able to put my thoughts into words and write a few posts for them 😀 I’m actually looking forward to it!

Before that though, here’s my experience at Sports Festival 2016 last Saturday, 24 September, at the Yio Chu Kang Community Centre.

No, not an actual Sports Festival, but a Sports Anime Fan FestivalWe’re still all weebs here ;D

img_6098

Unlike a lot of other big conventions or pop-culture events in Singapore, Sports Festival is a small event organised by Sports Anime Fans for other fans. This year’s SportsFest was the 2nd time it’s been held, but my first time actually attending. Unfortunately this was also the last time the event was going to be held due to various reasons that weren’t disclosed by the organisers.

Because it was such a small event with a more casual organising group, the atmosphere of the event was so much different to other bigger events/conventions and really refreshing. Everything just felt a lot more relaxed and chill in general. Not to mention how enthusiatic and supportive all the sports trash fans present were.

Event: STGCC 2016

I don’t actually have an excuse for a reason why I haven’t been blogging recently.

It’s a little weird how I missed blogging so much, but when it comes down to doing it, I end up thinking of all the other stuff I could be doing instead — like getting the non-social/hobby part of my life in order (who am I kidding), finishing up games, or reading manga — and then I can’t muster up the motivation to pour my heart into blogging like I usually try my best to do for each post. I seem to have so much I’d like to say, but when I have the chance to express them, I just… don’t. It’s probably a really bad habit I should kick, haha.

Anyway, here’s my experience at a convention that happened a week ago. Hopefully this gets me back in the groove of things at least a little.

This year’s Singapore Toy Games and Comics Convention (STGCC) was held at the Marina Bay Sands Expo and Convention Centre again, from the 10th to 11th of September (Sat-Sun).

img_5055

You can find my experience at last year’s STGCC here 🙂

STGCC is one of the few events that have a more Western influence as compared to a lot of other similar pop-culture conventions in Singapore. Previously, a lot of events predominantly featured Japanese pop-culture and the like in terms of guests and programs, but this is one of the events in the country that’s included a majority of Western influences. It’s pretty awesome we’re getting a lot more Western guests on this side of the world now. This year’s guests lineup and programs were cool. You can check out more from their website if interested.

Note: Long, photo-heavy post.

Happy Yaoi Day ~

I guess if you’re reading this, you’re probably already really familiar with manga and its different genres. But if you aren’t,

Yaoi, also known as Boys Love, is a Japanese genre of fictional media focusing on romantic or sexual relationships between male characters, typically aimed at a female audience and usually created by female authors. [Wikipedia]

That’s not to say the genre doesn’t have male readers though. On a similar point, Manga aimed at a gay male audience is called Bara and considered a separate genre; But that’s some information for another time.

August 1 (08/01) is celebrated as Yaoi Day because when you write “801“, it can be read as “yaoi” in Japanese.

8 – Read as “ya” (や) in the japanese number “8”, when read as ‘yattsu’ (八つ)
0 – Read from the roman letter “O.”
1 – Read from the “I” (い) in the japanese number for “1”, ‘ichi’ (いち)

This is pretty much a day of excuse for fans to write, draw, post and do anything else they would like to related to the celebration of Japanese fictional media on love between guys.

If you’ve fallen out of this hell, who knows, this might be the day you can consider falling back in! XD If you’re one of us rotten people already rolling in this deep, dark abyss, a Happy Yaoi Day to you! Whether you’re a fan of the genre or not, here’s to a day filled with love (and love between boys) ♥
