Happy Yaoi Day ~

I guess if you’re reading this, you’re probably already really familiar with manga and its different genres. But if you aren’t,

Yaoi, also known as Boys Love, is a Japanese genre of fictional media focusing on romantic or sexual relationships between male characters, typically aimed at a female audience and usually created by female authors. [Wikipedia]

That’s not to say the genre doesn’t have male readers though. On a similar point, Manga aimed at a gay male audience is called Bara and considered a separate genre; But that’s some information for another time.

August 1 (08/01) is celebrated as Yaoi Day because when you write “801“, it can be read as “yaoi” in Japanese.

8 – Read as “ya” (や) in the japanese number “8”, when read as ‘yattsu’ (八つ)
0 – Read from the roman letter “O.”
1 – Read from the “I” (い) in the japanese number for “1”, ‘ichi’ (いち)

This is pretty much a day of excuse for fans to write, draw, post and do anything else they would like to related to the celebration of Japanese fictional media on love between guys.

If you’ve fallen out of this hell, who knows, this might be the day you can consider falling back in! XD If you’re one of us rotten people already rolling in this deep, dark abyss, a Happy Yaoi Day to you! Whether you’re a fan of the genre or not, here’s to a day filled with love (and love between boys) ♥

A little contribution to Yaoi Day 🙂
