Ahahaha crap, didn’t manage to get this out before leaving on trip, but it’s back to reality and the blog backlog XD
Singapore definitely has no shortage of conventions and events for the otaku and geek community, but a majority of them usually happen in the 2nd half of the year. There were one (or two?) much smaller events that I didn’t go for in the first 4 months of 2017, but it’s been 5 months since a relatively more popular con happened, the last one I went for being EOY 2016. This is just a little of my experience on Doujima, that happened 3 weeks ago.
Doujin Market – Doujima was held on 6 and 7 (Sat and Sun) May at the Suntec City Convention Centre, Level 3, The Concourse. Because I had work on Saturday, I couldn’t make it down on the first day of the event, but there was no way I was gonna miss going down on Sunday!
As can be seen from the words on the setup in the photo above, Doujima is Singapore’s largest annual doujin art fair convention. Unlike other events where there’re stage programs and other stuff going on including official and artist booths, a majority of Doujima is dedicated to artists and creators, with a whopping 170 booths showcased at the venue!
Was originally thinking of combining this post with another event post from last weekend, but couldn’t format the flow of paragraphs and get what I wanted to say just right. Going to split them up instead.
Last Saturday (6 May) was Free Comic Book Day (FCBD)! If you’re not familiar with the geek date, the first May of every year is a day where… well… the comic community celebrates and free comic books are given out at participating stores!
In some countries, cosplayers can be seen about and other cool panels and guest appearances etc. happens, but it’s not as a big a thing in Singapore so a few stores just give out free comics in addition to other small things going on. Probably the biggest participating store in this tiny-ass country would be Kinokuniya at its main store, but the FCBD Singapore FB page would be the best info on that.
I’m not a huge comic fan, but I have a pretty big soft spot for comics in general, seeing as I grew up on popular heroes like batman and spiderman, then fell deep into manga. Being able to sample a few series is a total bonus XD
It’s been a week and a half since I’ve been back from Japan, and I am STILL SICK OTL
Man, this is pretty horrible. Fell ill about halfway through my time in Northern Kyushu with a cold and had to go around with a mask for a number of days. About 2 weeks since then and I’ve still got and itchy throat and some phlegm stuck in me. It’s not so bad when I’m totally silent, but when I open my mouth to talk or laugh — or breathe, which is a lot — the whoosh of air irritates my throat and there goes the coughing, sometimes mild wheezing. Doesn’t really help that my work requires me to talk and every time I meet friends I end up laughing, ahahaha, crap. Been spending a lot of time lying in bed reading or sleeping because I couldn’t muster up the effort to do much else. It hasn’t been that good. I haven’t been the weight I am now since I was a mid-teen, which is mildly disturbing /o\ Hope I get better as soon as possible.
I really need to get better because tomorrow night, I’ll be leaving for USA with my family. HAHA.
Yup, that’s right! At this time tomorrow, A friend and I will be on a plane to the Land of the Rising Sun!! WOOHOOHOOOOO!!!!!!
So frigging excited!!!! Also a little nervous, ahahahaha. But definitely many times more excited! (ง •̀_•́)ง
This was a series I mentioned in my Winter 2016-2017 anime interest list. Now that the Winter anime season has finished airing and the Spring season has started, it’s time to watch those completed series I’ve had my eyes on!
Anime: ACCE 13-ku Kansatsu-ka「ACCA 13区監察課」ACCA: 13th Ward Observation Department
As mentioned in my previous Winter interest list, the ACCA manga series is by a mangaka that I’ve read works of previously, Ono Natsume-sensei. Her Yaois were relaxing reads — mature slice-of-life with really laid-back atmospheres, plus her art style was extremely distinctive and stayed in my mind. Unfortunately, the ACCA manga hasn’t been scanlated, so I really wanted to check this anime adaptation of it out. Not to mention, I was also totally looking forward to seeing and hearing the beautiful characters and seiyuu cast in action XD
ACCA is a really hard series to explain. I’ve had friends ask a fellow ACCA-watcher and I what it’s about, but we both had lots of trouble coming up with words. To sum it up in a nutshell, I guess it can be described as a ‘political drama based in a fictional country that centers around investigation officer, Jean Otis.’, at least that’s how I described it.
Just finished episode 2 and thought I should get this quick first impressions out of the way before continuing.
WARNING: Nothing much I guess? At least not from what I’ve watched so far.
